An Original 1998 New York Yankees World Series "Players" trophy presented to Chili Davis (Dawg). This trophy is an identical, but smaller version of the trophy that is given to players, coaches, and front office personal of a World Series Championship team. This was Davis' personal, one-of-a-kind, 1998 World Series trophy.
Of all the various trophies and awards created to honor excellence in the field of sports, perhaps none is more attractive or visually impressive than the Major League Baseball World Series trophy, produced by world-renowned jewelers Balfour. The imposing design features 30 gold-colored pennants, bearing the team name of each Major League franchise individually, displayed around the perimeter of the black wooden base. The interior metal design consists of a silver baseball, set within a gold band, atop which rests a crown. Displayed directly in front of this are the 1998 World Series press pins for the Yankees and the Padres. The gold-colored band affixed around the base reads "World Series Champions - New York Yankees - 1998 CHILI DAVIS (DAWG)" in black lettering.
The 1998 World Series matched the New York Yankees against the San Diego Padres marking the first time the Yankees had ever faced an expansion team in the Series. The Yankees swept the Series in four games to capture their second championship in three years, and their 24th overall.
This would be the second-to last year that Balfour would produce this classic and most recognized baseball trophy (in 2000 Major League Baseball gave the contract to Tiffany's who charges teams in excess of $20,000 per trophy for the award).
