Herman's Official American League Baseball (Horse Hide Cover, yarn wrapped, 9 inch 5 oz. 1 oz. rubber) signed in black fountain pen by 22 members of the 1933 New York Yankees.
Players who have signed include: Babe Ruth (on the sweet spot with a slight abrasion in the "U") Lou Gehrig, Bill Dickey, Herb Pennock, Lefty Gomez, Earle Combs (signed twice), Joe Sewell, Ben Chapman, Frank Crosetti, Johnny Allen, Lyn Lary, Sam Byrd, George Uhle, Wilcy Moore, Dan MacFayden, Dixie Walker, Joe Glenn, Russ Van Atta, Charlie Devens, etc.
The signatures of Herb Pennock, Lefty Gomez, and Joe Glenn have been deemed clubhouse versions of their signatures. From the 1920's the the 1980's it was common practice for clubhouse personnel (attendants/batboys, etc.) to perform the duties of signing for ballplayers.
The ball, which is toned, has a light layer of shellac and a few nicks or small abrasions, yet still in very good condition.
