Albert Einstein Typed Signed Letter Re: Einstein's Sailboat

$7,295.00

A one page typed letter signed in blue pen by Albert Einstein. Einstein entrusts his beloved sailboat, Tineff (Yiddish for "Junk") to a friend on Long Island.

The letter, dated June 10, 1940, is written on Einstein's personal blind-stamped Princeton, NJ stationary. Written to a personal friend, Mr. David Rothman of Long Island. the two had met during the summer of 1930 while Einstein vacationed on Nassau Point. Einstein later entrusted Rothman with the care of his sailboat during the winter months.

The letter is in nice condition, with very minor fold marks from mailing, and a cellophane tape repair of a small tear on the reverse side, which has bled through the page. This stain is away from all of the writing.

A wonderful letter from Einstein discussing two of his favorite leisure pursuits: sailing and music.

Museum-caliber frame, with acid-free cloth mattes, UV Plexiglass, wrapped edges, etc.

Sold with Certificates of Authenticity from both The Autograph Source (Lifetime Guarantee) and independent third-party authenticator PSA/DNA.

________________________

David Rothman owned a department store in Southold, Long Island, and during the summer of 1939 had befriended Einstein while vacationing on Nassau Point. An amateur musician, Rothman organized a musical quartet with Einstein and some local friends. The group me socially and played together often during the course of the summer, in what Einstein would later refer to as his "pleasant musical evenings". Though Rothman only had a high scholl education, he had a keen interest in science and enjoyed talking with Einstein about scientific matters. Thier friendship blossomed over the summer, and Rothman spent many leisure hours with the world-renowned physicist on the beach and at Einstein's small cottage in Peconic.
