A check signed by the British Polar Explorer Ernest Shackleton, whose 800-mile rescue voyage in the Antarctic waters in a makeshift lifeboat (saving his entire crew) is arguably the most amazing survival story of all time.
The check, dated October 13th, 1911, was written for 10.00 pounds sterling in Cash at the Hotel Capitol, signed “E.H. Shackleton” in black by Ernest Shackleton. Shackleton crossed out “Order” and wrote “Bearer”, adding his initials “E.H.S.” underneath.
A nice-looking and very affordable Shackleton autograph.
In fine condition, with expected cancellation marks and holes across his signature. The left side of the check has been cut off.
At the bottom right is stamped “THE SHACKLETON COLLECTION”. The Shackleton Collection was a group of Shackleton related items sold at a London Auction House in 2001.
The entire check has been encapsulated and authenticated by independent third-party authenticator PSA/DNA.
Also sold with a Certificate of Authenticity from The Autograph Source (Lifetime Guarantee).
