A one page appointment printed on vellum. Appointing Wm. Gaule as Ensign. in the seventeenth regiment of foot. Signed “George ” in the upper left corner, with wax seal partially intact. Co-signed by William Pitt, The Elder. The document is entirely legible. In very good condition, with expected toning and a few areas of soiling. The elder William Pitt, later the first Earl of Chatham, was the
driving force behind the British victory in the Seven Years War,
known as the French and Indian War in North America.
