Description

A document signed “M. Van Buren”as Secretary of State, one page, affixed at the sides and corners with white adhesive tape. The document is an early United States Passport, with a large eagle vignette at top center, for Richard L. Muniz.

The left of the document describes Muniz’ age, height, forehead, eyes, nose, complexion, etc.

In good condition, with complete separation at horizontal center fold, usual folds, scattered creasing and toning, light water staining to right side, vertical fold through beginning of signature. Dated April 11, 1831. Measures approx. 10.75″ x 16”.

This is an actual passport. Very descriptive, as this was in the days before photography… his forehead is “high”, his face is “long”, his chin “ordinary”, and his nose “aquiline”. The white tape will all come off. The document has split at the fold, and has some staining in the upper right.
