A one page letter, written on Barnum’s personal letterhead stationery with embossed monogram at the upper left. Dated November 30, 1887.
The letter reads in full: â€œDear Willie L. Thompson â€“ I donâ€™t often get time to answer letters â€“ but yours is so kind & I love children so dearly, and your photo shows you as such a bright boy, I hasten to tell you my â€˜Greatest Show on Earthâ€™ will next year be larger, funnier and more marvelous than it ever was before. It will not perhaps get to Portland till late in the season â€“ as we go West first. Truly Yours, P.T. Barnumâ€.
In the same year as this letter, Barnum had formed the Barnum and Bailey Circus with James Bailey, creating what he called â€œthe Greatest Show on Earthâ€. Absolutely amazing content from Barnum, promising even better things next year for his traveling circus!!
